About the Exhibition
Today the rapid development of technology plays a role to expand human senses in various forms, and it exerts its power in the field of arts. Many of simulation systems that stimulate the human senses are combined with Virtual Reality(VR), Augmented Reality(AR), Mixed Reality(MR), and haptic technology and this combination invite us to a new world where humans can experience the extension of senses.
For June COMO&HAPPY SCREEN Exhibition, Art Center Nabi presents Depth of Circle, by ROOMTONE, a creative team that communicates with audiences via experimental storytelling artwork based on VR technology in the virtual space.
Depth of Circle comes from a game scene that a woman who falls into a coma faces a new life and begins a journey beyond the deep unconsciousness. It depicts this moment as the astronaut discovers a new planet through VR and audio-visual installation work.
The Depth of Circle invites audiences to an unknown space through VR technology. The universe space, created by the imagination of the artist, provides an extension of senses to the audience. By encountering the new planet and experiencing the sound of the universe and the conversation made with the new planet, the audience experience the visual and auditory expansion. A moon-like shaped sphere lighting is carried in both audience’s and the woman’s hands. It is a medium that induces the MR experience to the audience as a symbol of the new planet facing in the virtual space. By embracing the newly encountered planet into one’s hand, the audience experiences the tactile expansion through the media. This reflection visualizes a woman carrying a new life. Although the rendezvous from the planet in a virtual space is not real, the experience the audience perceives, exists. Therefore, the extension of senses in the virtual space which the audience encounters is recognized as a sensational expansion through technology.
The audio-visualization, composed of images that reflects cell division and the birth of new life, is screened together, leading the audience towards a diverse perspective. Depth of Circle alludes that the unfamiliar planet is a new life to be born. It suggests that the common denominator of life and universes exists as a shape of a circle and indicates that the both macro -universe and micro-personal life are connected to each other.
The exhibition Depth of Circle, introducing the work created with an infinite imagination of the creative team ROOMTONE through VR technology, is cordially welcoming the audience to have a sensual experience in the virtual space and in this Depth of Circle exhibition, we hope you to explore the unknown world where there are the universe and the birth of new life.
