Section of Craft work called, “adventures in motion“ from onedotzero festival will be shown at onedotzero 2009. This festival contains of music, images, live performance, and digital art. This is 73-mintue image parade; composed of 22 pieces in total having 3 main parts, which are fantastic and artistic imagination, delicacy, and skill of digital images. ‘Hi, Human Interface,‘ computer system running by manually, ‘White box,‘ colorful images drawn by the colored pencils turning into the tress and woods, ‘And when the light fades, I shall never forget,‘ one piece of paper is reborn as delicacy, ‘Sirius, Bright Star of the Celestial Wolf,‘ animals of festivals made of paper popped out from old magazines are the examples of that you can taste of reflections of youthful life. The combination of craftworks; colored paper folded, knitting, stitches and technology of media images is delivering the both messages to us; sensitivity of analogue and digital innovation.

Analogue computer antics from recently born interaction design group Multitouch Barcelona. This witty short explores what it would be like to use computers run by humans.

They design experiences that merge real and digital into a creative environment where people are invited to touch, play, move and feel as they do in the real world.


2. Aanaatt


Max Hattler(UK)/ 2008 / 04:45

Award-winning abstract stop-motion film commissioned by w+k tokyo lab for the Japanese hip hop /electronica artist Jemapur [creator of this years onedotzero festival trailer audio]. Hattler uses found geometric objects to create an arresting vision of analogue futurism.

Max Hattler
A Royal College of Art graduate who has shown his experimental short films at many festivals worldwide. Hattler has created music videos and tour visuals for several bands including Basement Jaxx, The Egg, Dollskabeat, and his Dad’s band ‘Hattler’. He has performed live audiovisuals at festivals and art venues across Europe, the US and Japan.


3. Synesthesia

A portrait of two brother’s and their surreal experiences as they explore their synesthesia [the ability associate sounds with tastes, colors, letters, numbers or even people]. A topsy-turvy world where music looks like cats in speakers, octopus tastes of red smoke and lychees taste like marbles.

Ian Kibbey and Corey Creasey aka Terri Timely mesh together live-action, animation, illustration and good old-fashioned handmade creations. They have directed music videos for such artists as St. Vincent, Modest Mouse, The Wrens, Joanna Newsom, Air Traffic, Midlake, Bobby Birdman, and The Little Ones. Their film Synesthesia has garnered a lot of attention both online and at film festivals internationally.


4. White Box


Makoto Yabuki(Japan)/ 2009 / 04:08

A designer creates geometric patterns on a drawing board, which take on a life of their own to flutter like birds around his studio. A subtle visual poem, using augmented reality and 3d animation to stunning effect.

Working in Tokyo, Makoto Yabuki started his career as a visual designer in 1997 and in 2003 established Tangram Co.,Ltd with friends. His artistic range is expansive; among his recent works are ‘Scope’, ‘Manakai’ and ‘Confine[s]’.  His works have been presented in international film festivals such as Siggraph, onedotzero, Artfutura, Ars Electronica.

An intricate and ambitious use of a Stanley knife that transforms a humble piece of white paper into a captivating organic microcosm. Jerwood moving image award finalist in 2008.

Collaborating under the name Boo Hoo, George Wu and Bonnie Carr formed their creative partnership through nurturing a mutual interest in film and a desire to represent the ever-evolving relationship between the organic and the artificial. Both motivated by a natural, hands-on approach, the instigation of visual ideas grew from drawing and paper craft. A graduate of the RCA, George Wu also directs music videos and installations.


6. The Seed

An animated voyage through nature's life cycle, following the trials and tribulations of a humble apple seed. An impressively intricate paper craft film where everything in shot has been painstakingly hand folded, cut and glued.

Having completed an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art, Kelly was awarded the Conran Foundation Award by the provost Sir Terence Conran. His graduation short film ‘Procrastination’ was very well received winning him the Jerwood Moving Image Prize 2008, a BAFTA and a place in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Director Showcase. Nexus now represents Kelly.


7. Bubbalicious


Geoffroy De Crecy(UK)/ 2008 / 03:41

Feel-good stop frame animation for Jake Williams’s canine alter-ego Rex the Dog complete with homespun disco-ball, electro synths and glow sticks.

His first venture into moving animation was making a promo for his brother Etienne De Crecy, locking himself away for nearly two and a half months to create 3D promo ‘Am I Wrong?’ The result was a remarkable piece of work that won two silver awards at D&AD. Since being represented by Partizan Geoffroy has completed individual commercials and longstanding campaigns for Guinness, Kelloggs, Fanta and Fedex.


8. Like It or Not

An embroidered odyssey through silken thread jungles and stitched palm trees, where coconut heads bounce along to the tropical, wailing tunes of the indie aussie band.

Mathematics is a multi-disciplined design and film company made up of a core team of directors, designers, animators, illustrators, photographers and programmers. They have worked with an impressive array of local and international artists including The Vines, Hot Hot Heat, Jet, Slayer, Pink, Eric Clapton, Michael Buble, The Used, Cut Chemist, Madonna, Rilo Kiley, Evermore, Eskimo Joe and Kisschasy.


9. This is where we live


Ben Falk + Josiah Newbolt(UK)/ 2008 / 02:47

A 3D city created out of a library of books, where people are page cut-outs and tower blocks are novels. All the sets, characters and objects were all created from books published by 4th estate, who commissioned the film. Look out for references to the books in the animation and some famous London landmarks.

Young directing duo, Ben and Jos have been working together for four years. In that time they have worked on music videos for bands, corporate shorts, virals and self-penned short films. With varying backgrounds they have been able to cultivate a broad range of styles from stop-frame animation to cinematic spectacles. Their dedication to the craft and innovation of new techniques is evident.


10. We got time


David Wilson(UK)/ 2009 / 03:55

A spinning zoetrope delightfully creates live animation before our very eyes using only mirrored card and a handful of record players. A play-out of the seasons revolves into an animal exodus of hungry wolf men and leaping gazelles.

David Wilson
The son of a headmaster, David Wilson has had discipline drummed into him from an early age. After graduating with first class honours in illustration from Brighton University David deftly moved into the world of directing. Now signed by Blinkink he has produced both animation and live-action content for Noah Harris' Ford Fiesta spot ‘Zeitgeist’.


11. Misfit


The Glue Society(Australia)/ 2009 / 03:50

The story of a young albeit creative misfit goes to extraordinary lengths to find his place in the world, dressing in eccentric apparel hand-constructed from materials such as pegs, balloons, wood and shredded plastic bags. These unique creations have to be seen to be believed.

The Glue Society was founded in Australia in 1998 by former ad agency creatives Jonathan Kneebone and Gary Freedman, focusing on writing, design, and direction. The company now has offices in Sydney and New York, while their portfolio of work determinedly stretches across media to incorporate graphic design, sculpture, installations, and broadcast television alongside print and TV advertising.

A pile of old magazines come to life in Chris Ritson’s intriguing film where the flat pages with photos of fantastic bodies turn into a series of vaguely identifiable animals. Cleverly crafted with surprisingly effective transitions.

Looking at transformative processes in nature and the ways we come to understand them, Chris Ritson’s work adopts mediums that belong more traditionally to the world of science than art. Highlighting society’s prerogatives in ‘understanding’ nature, he orchestrates intricate yet discrete environments that initiate temporal narratives.


13. The City Strums

Taboo Plus is an Israeli musician and graphic designer and here both disciplines are called upon. A delicately animated film composed entirely of crochet stitches which roll across a fabric background or unravel to narrate the protagonists path through an urban landscape.

Taboo Plus is a 28 year old artist, musician and graphic designer based in Tel Aviv, Israel. His realm contains writing lyrics, making beats, designing graphics, creating videos and dates. His first album ‘Life makes people hard, Wanna feel?’  was released in 2001, whilst another called ‘Strings’  was released in 2008. Taboo Plus has a 1st degree from HIT Holon - Design and Communication.


14. The art of Drowning


Diego Maclean (Canada)/ 2009 / 02:07

Billy Collins dictates his poem ‘the art of drowning’ to Diego MacLean’s hand drawn interpretation. His monochropmatic and textured drawing style effectively captures the emphasis of Collin’s cerebration about the last moments of life.

Diego was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He lived and studied film in São Paulo, Brazil then moved to the US for three years working as a graphic designer. He recently graduated from the animation program at the Emily Carr University in Vancouver, Canada where he currently resides.


15. Woody

Britt is a London based animator and illustrator who made woody in two weeks utilising a laser engraver turned to maximum and £10 worth of Thai softwood! Pieces of wood in varying shapes and forms protrude playfully from objects bringing an empty studio to life to the beat in what seems like a whimsical daydream.

Daniel Britt is an animator and illustrator based in London. He recently graduated with a first class degree in illustration and animation from Kingston University. He is now working with illustration and animation collective This Is It where he has completed work for clients such as Vice UK and The London Sinfonietta.


16. Shadows

Stop motion music video that is an exploration with paper in 2d and 3d forms which develop and evolve with multitudes of colors, pulsing rhythmically across the screen.

Born in France in 1976, Dutter grew up in a painter's environment, among a family that taught the pleasures of the artistic work. It is in such a world that Dutter discovered directors such as Jacques Tourneur, Michelangelo Antonioni, Dino Rissi, and even Michel Gondry. As well as other artistic cinematographers like Maclaren, Alexander Alexeieff, Ryan Larkin and the National Film Board of Canada.


17. Recycle Invaders

Maia is a Brazilian born; London based designer and animator with a penchant for cardboard fantasies that he wishes were not just in his imagination. Recycling machines could float amongst the clouds and be fed rubbish that chug away for a mere moments before producing green trees to give back to the earth.

Brazilian born Thiago has worked as a designer for over 10 years.  Having moved from São Paulo to London six years ago he now works with film, design and animation and strives to bring original solutions to his clients, producing work for Cartoon Network, BBC, Microsoft, Pepsi, Nickelodeon, Sky and Nokia to name a few.


18. Streaming Gradient

Stark is an accomplished fine artist whose intricate paper sculptures inspire a kinetic leap in the viewer. So it’s no wonder she’s made that leap herself into animation, coupling her work with a dreamy soundtrack. Staring into the infinity of changing colors in this piece is both a reflective and hypnotic experience – a fantastical film to get lost in.

Jen Stark
Jen Stark was born, lives and works in Miami, USA. Upon viewing her artwork, one may think of complex microscopic patterning, rainbows, and mysterious organic structures. Stark has exhibited extensively around the US, with solo shows in NYC, Seattle, Miami, Washington DC, and Chicago. She has recently received the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium's Visual and Media Artists Fellowship.


19. A Sustainable Relationship


Kyle Bean (UK)/ 2009 / 00:56

Kyle bean makes 3-dimentional forms and animates them in a simplistic yet pleasant dose of information through a scrapbook which comes to life. Science lesson + imagination = an interesting thought.

Bean was born in Devon, UK and has since migrated along the south coast of England, graduating recently with a degree in animation from the University of Brighton. Bean’s work is often a reflection of the things that he has observed and enjoyed doing as a child. Stop-frame animation, film and model making are areas which he enjoys expressing ideas most.


20. TXT Island


Chris Gavin(UK)/ 2009 / 03:30

This entire film is composed with a limiting palette of pegboard letters discovered in a charity shop. Whilst you’re required to make some leaps in imagination in order to relate shapes to real life objects the lush sound-effects of this epic narrative more than fill the gaps. A painstakingly created stop motion animation; amazingly intricate work with an inspiring story of unity and extremely satisfying to watch.

Chris Gavin
Chris Gavin has worked professionally in animation for fourteen years, working on the production side of feature film animation projects for Warner Brothers in both Los Angeles and London. Since 2002, Chris has worked for Tandem as a compositor, art-director and as a director. Recent directing credits have been for clients such as Focus DIY, Sky TV and the BBC. Chris also continues to initiate and pursue his own short film projects, releasing ‘Evo’ in 2006 and 'TXT Island' in 2009.


21. Bang Out


Transforma(Germany)/ 2009 / 02:05

Transforma are a Berlin video art collective who profess to increasingly higher levels of absurdity in their work processes and as such this video doesn’t disappoint. Inspired by the music this is a series of abstract visuals with flashes of strong color composed around the focal point of what they call ‘helmet man’. A curious and striking moving image work which blurs the boundary between live action and animation.

Transforma
Berlin video artist collective Transforma combine the momentum of improvisation with the power of highly composed imagery. Transforma started producing experimental video art in 2001 and have been taking their image world and production processes to higher levels of absurdity ever since. Transforma are Luke Bennett, Baris Hasselbach and Simon Krahl.


22. Warrior’s Dance


Corin Hardy (UK)/ 2009 / 03:28

Hardy is a seasoned special fx monster creator whose passion for 70s & 80s horror cinema and illustration combined with a unique sensibility for the strange and beautiful is channeled equally in this music video for the prodigy. Live action and animation are seamlessly intertwined in this film where an army of intricately formed origami characters spread like wildfire and invade a bar – like modern day gremlins who multiply with rave music until they literally burn the house down. Menacing and mesmerizing.

Corin Hardy
From an early age Corin was keen on the mysterious and strangely sinister 1970’s children’s storybooks that still inspire his work today. Following a degree in special effects at Wimbledon School of Art he dedicated five years of his life to making his stop motion short epic ‘Butterfly’ whilst supporting himself making low budget music videos, commissioned sculptures and design and artwork for bands.
