Bitcoin Visualization Workshop

Art Center Nabi invites creative young professionals and students who are interested in the field of media art to participate in the Bitcoin Visualization Workshop. This workshop will be held in relation to the exhibition Neotopia: Data and Humanity, which presents the artworks utilizing data from various fields of the society, politics, economics, cultures and environment with the aim of a ‘more humane society.’ chains is one of the participated artworks, which is a real-time visualization and sonification of Bitcoin transactions and the automated trading system, crx-eated by Daito Manabe, 2bit Ishii, Hirofumi Tsukamoto, and Yusuke Tomoto. In this workshop, Daito Manabe and 2bit Ishii will teach a hands on introduction to bitcoin data visualization and data mining with emphasis on creating your own artistic and interactive applications.

Program Schedule:



* The workshop will be held in English.

* The workshop will be proceeded by two divided groups depending on the level of programming proficiency.



Preparations for Participants:

Participants should bring their own laptop computers (Mac OSX) with the following toolkit/development environment/software downloaded/installed prior to the workshop.
-Xcode 8/9
-openFrameworks v0.9.8
-node.js v8
-text editor for programming (eg. sublime text, visual studio code etc.)



Artists Bio

Daito Manabe
Daito Manabe is Tokyo-based media artist, interaction designer, programmer, and DJ. He launched Rhizomatiks in 2006. Since 2015, he has served alongside Motoi Ishibashi as co-director of Rhizomatiks Research, the firm’s division dedicated to exploring new possibilities in the realms of technical and artistic exx-pression with a focus on R&D-intensive projects. He is specially-appointed professor at Keio University SFC.
Manabe’s work in design, art, and entertainment takes a new approach to everyday materials and phenomenon. However, his end goal is not simply rich, high-definition realism by recognizing and recombining these familiar elemental building blocks. Rather, his practice is informed by careful observation to discover and elucidate the essential potentialities inherent to the human body, data, programming, computers, and other phenomena, thus probing the interrelationships and boundaries delineating the analog and digital, real and virtual.

2bit Ishii
2bit Ishii is born in 1984, studied at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, at Yamaguchi University. He founded buffer Renaiss Co, Ltd. in 2010. He is involved in various projects in advertising, entertainment and stage production. He works mainly on network, back-end systems, mobile applications, LED control etc. The Omohide Breaker and Anti Tagging apps are recognized as masterpieces of his work. He worked with Daito Manabe, Hirofumi Tsukamoto and Yusuke Tomoto to crx-eate chains, which examines a platform for digital artworks involving original currency using blockchain.
